We also have the launch of our first release of shows for the new Spring 2023 season coming soon, so do make sure to keep an eye on your inbox. You do not want to miss out on the latest dynamic programme coming to Northern Stage next year!
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Don’t miss Not Too Tame’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, playing at Northern Stage until the 12th November.
Join Not Too Tame for a riotous ride through the forest at night, for a tale of wild weddings, mistaken identity and a staging of Shakespeare’s best known comedy where not everything is as rosy as it seems. When dreams merge with reality it’s not always clear who’s who and what’s what – so keep your wits about you!
With more merriment than you can shake your ruff at, a big dose of bewilderment and a dash of disaster, this is a Midsummer Night’s Dream not to be watched, but experienced. Pick up your petticoat and fasten your corsets, there’s a donkey on the loose.

From You to Me
This is a Northern Stage hire.
After the war, Tyneside was a tough place to grow up, but among the bombsites and blackened buildings, the children experienced a freedom that is almost unimaginable today. From You to Me shares stories of post-war Tyneside from those who were there: the street games, dance halls, and Christmas stockings, but also the hunger and harsh discipline.
This verbatim show, where the actors speak the real words of the characters, provides a platform for voices often marginalised, and illustrates the richness of traditional Tyneside English. It presents the characters’ views on modern society and its values, offers valuable insights into the relationships between generations today, and shows that the Tyneside dialect is as diverse as its people.
With all the progress experienced through the second half of the 20th Century and a refusal to ‘be old’, were ultimately these baby boomers the luckiest generation of all? They certainly didn’t all have their Tyneside accent knocked out of them.
From You to Me is a collaborative project between Newcastle and Northumbria University. Based on research that explores language variation among Tynesiders aged 70+, From You to Me uses the verbatim theatre’s ‘Recorded Delivery’ method to illustrate and celebrate this variation.
With thanks to Newcastle University, Northumbria University, and Alphabetti Theatre. THIS IS A FREE EVENT

The camaraderie of six soldiers is challenged when cocky Sprog arrives to replace a fallen friend hours before deployment. After Rutter’s mistakes in training that could cost their lives in action, the
soldiers question who will have their back as they’re put on notice to move.
With Smudge on back-to-back tours, Knobby still pulling pranks, Lewis hiding something from her team and Chopper unusually quiet, it’s not just the new kid picking at this second family’s scars. Will
they make it back from breaking point or has it gone too far this time? There are big decisions to be made by the soldiers who can only ‘hurry up and wait’.

Hey Diddle Diddle
All nursery rhyme characters love Christmas! And this year some of the most famous faces from your favourite rhymes are coming together to present a spectacular Christmas cabaret.
Headed up by Nero (a cat who plays the fiddle) and Lazzo (a little dog who loves to laugh), the pair bring together their nursery rhyme friends to share their own special stories and skills.
Including performances by Hickory Dickory’s Flea Circus, the famous dare-devilled egg himself Humpty Dumpty, and Incy Wincy, whose many legs make her Tango something to behold, Hey Diddle Diddle is a fun-loving, music-filled adventure with your favourite characters as you’ve never seen them before!
Hey Diddle Diddle features live music, puppetry, laughter and lots of chances to join in. It lasts 45 minutes and every performance is relaxed, making it an ideal introduction to theatre for children age 6 and under and their grown-ups.
Hey Diddle Diddle is a new Christmas production from Kitchen Zoo, whose previous sell-out Christmas shows include The Three Bears at Christmas and Wolf!
