NS Archive 2021: Road

25 – 28 August 2021

“This is our Road, but tonight it’s your road an’ all! Don’t feel awkward with us, make yourselves at home”

It’s 1986: Thatcher’s Britain, jobs and hope are scarce, but the party must go on – sound familiar?

On the 35th anniversary of Jim Cartwright’s joyous and anarchic masterpiece, the residents of Road are relocated to the North East. We meet them as they prepare to swap the grind of their day to day for the warm embrace of the local pub and a much needed night on the tiles.

With protest, poetry, lust and grit, Road is a vibrant, funny and moving celebration of community and the incredible resilience of the human spirit.

Join us for a wild night, dance under the glitter ball but don’t spill your chips in the gutter.
