New Head of Producing and Programming appointed at Northern Stage

Northern Stage appoints new Head of Producing and Programming.

Tom Hurley has been appointed as Northern Stage’s new Head of Producing and Programming. Tom will join Northern Stage from Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford with previous roles at Curve Leicester and Queens Theatre Hornchurch.

Tom said:

Culture is such a vital part of Newcastle’s rich history, with Northern Stage firmly embedded in the North East’s creative heart. I have felt such warmth from Michael and Natalie, and couldn’t be more pleased to be joining them and the rest of the extraordinary team in the new year. The arts sector holds so much power to bring communities together and I can’t wait to get stuck in

Natalie Ibu, Northern Stage’s Artistic Director said:

I am so looking forward to welcoming Tom to the North East and to Northern Stage.

Tom brings a dynamic and enterprising approach to programming, with an exciting track record for securing unique experiences for the audiences he serves. This – together with his experience supporting creative partnerships across a variety of scales, his skill as a producer and his passion for contemporary performance – makes him a thrilling colleague and collaborator.

He shares my enthusiasm that theatre can be a force for positive change in the world – telling stories that celebrate difference, develop inclusion, and strengthen communities. We are united by a commitment to make pieces of culture, not just theatre, for the people of the North East and I can’t wait to work with them to make brilliant projects come to life for our communities.

Tom will join Northern Stage in late January 2026 where he will be working alongside a full time Producer (currently recruiting here), Rory Stuart, Programming Coordinator and Laura Lydon, Stage One Trainee Producer.
