Our brand new Changing Places toilet is officially open!
For the first time in more than 13 years, Newcastle City Council have opened two new public toilets – one at Northern Stage and the other at Newcastle Civic Centre. Equipped with changing facilities and hoists for disabled people, these facilities will be open to the public during public opening times for both buildings.
The £60,000 cost of the fully accessible loos was met by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ Changing Places Fund and delivered in partnership with Muscular Dystrophy UK, who provided technical expertise and support to the delivery of the project.
These are the first public toilets to be opened by the council in Newcastle since 2010, when toilets were opened as part of the St Andrew’s Way extension to Eldon Square shopping centre.
I am delighted to see our funding has helped secure new Changing Places toilets in Newcastle, delivering modern and accessible facilities in areas where they are needed most.– Levelling Up Minister, Jacob Young
At Northern Stage, inclusivity is so important to us, and we’re proud that our city centre building is a civic resource for everyone in our community whether they are coming to watch a show or not. The fully accessible Changing Places toilet will be available to anyone who needs it whenever our building is open to the public.
