CALLOUT: ASSISTANT FACILITATOR for YOUNG DIRECTORS
Northern Stage would love to hear from people interested in taking on an Assistant Facilitator role for our Young Directors programme.
What is Young Directors?
Young Directors is an introduction to the craft of directing live performance for 14-19 year olds. Through practical activity, participants will learn about the essentials of directing live performance, from working with actors, to playing with text. The programme is designed for young people who have no previous experience of directing.
What will the Assistant Facilitator Do?
The Assistant Facilitator will work with the Lead Facilitator to support participants through the activity.
They will:
• Support young people’s engagement and learning in weekly workshops, helping small groups and individuals to complete exercises and tasks, explore creativity, find confidence, work together, and share ideas.
• Be sensitive to the dynamic of the room and alert the Lead Facilitator of any group or individual needs that have been missed.
• Source tools to assist learning as requested by the Lead Facilitator
• Feedback to the Lead Facilitator about participants’ experience in session, and in an end-of-project evaluation session
• Occasionally lead games, warm-up, and cool-down activities
Who are we looking for?
We would like our Assistant Facilitator to have:
• Experience working as an Assistant Facilitator or Facilitator with young people, preferably in a theatre-making context
• An ability to listen, communicate, and empathise with young people across 14-19, from a diverse range of backgrounds.
• An understanding of, or an openness to learn about, inclusive practice and the barriers young people may face in accessing the arts
• A passion for live performance, with an interest in directing
We would love to work with someone looking to learn, grow their skills as a facilitator, work with young people and develop a relationship with Northern Stage.
