“I am a person with MS, I am not MS”
This production will more than move you. It aims to change the way that the audience understands life with a brain condition and it celebrates the individuals themselves with so much potential rather than treating MS as an unbreakable brick wall.
A rollercoaster of emotions, Bright Places is incredibly honest and will encapsulate you in a true story of life with MS and the challenges and inner conflicts it evokes. Even in its dark humour and eccentric moments it never fails to maintain the realism that makes it so compelling.
It tells of every stage in coming to terms with the condition: the diagnosis, the denial and all the learning curves in between. At such a busy and crucial time in her life, Rae is portrayed by 3 actors, each of who deliver different voices in her head. This is incredibly facilitating of the personal reflections and isolation, but also the passion and escape Rae finds in dance and 90’s music.
In contrast to what you may first think when you hear about the subject matter of this play, I left the room feeling uplifted and greatly inspired that such a deeply personal story has the opportunity to be shared in this way. Bright Places documents that hope can transpire in full blossom even when it feels like it will never grow again.
