Volunteer Performers Wanted

Volunteer Performers Wanted

Northern Stage and Actors Touring Company are seeking a range of volunteer performers to take part in an upcoming production of The Suppliant Women, one of the oldest surviving plays in existence. We'd like you to join a chorus (the 'suppliant' women) who will rehearse and perform alongside a professional cast at Northern Stage. We are looking for female performers aged 16-26 and 50+, and male performers aged 18-30.

 You'll get the chance to:

  • Work with critically acclaimed theatre makers
  • Learn and develop your singing, dance and performance skills
  • Sink your teeth into gritty themes such as immigration, feminism and democracy
  • Perform at Northern Stage with a professional cast of actors
  • Have a hell of a lot of fun!

In The Suppliant Women, written by the Greek playwright Aeschylus, fifty young women escape forced marriages in Egypt and seek asylum in Greece. You will work with playwright David Greig, composer John Browne and Actors Touring Company Artistic Director Ramin Gray.

An ability to hold a tune and move to a beat is essential, but you should not be in Higher Education in a Performing Arts subject. There will be an introductory session to give you a feel for the show; you can see if you like the project and we can make sure we get a wide range of talent and enthusiasm.

Whilst the initial application phase has ended, we are still interested in recruiting more volunteers, so if you are interested please email Becky Orwin at rorwin@northernstage.co.uk.
